En Route to the Rockies!

Whistler to Cache Creek

Today was mainly about travelling from the west coast towards the Canadian Rockies. We chose a road which seemed the most direct from Whistler and wondered why it wasn't included on our British Columbia map as the shortest way!! Think we discovered why- steep uphill, long. windy downhill, very poor road surface in places which had the RV bouncing up and down and the cups and plates rattling!!!! (I was sure they would be broken!) Anyway we eventually arrived at Cache Creek, our overnight stop. There were some stunning views of the Fraser River canyon which runs through Lillooet but not many places to stop for a picture.
Hoping to get an earlyish start tomorrow, travelling through Kamloops up to Clearwater where we will stay for two nights in order to spend a day in the Wells Gray Provincial Park.

A Day in the Mountains

Beautiful weather today, perfect for a trip up Whistler Mountain. Once up there you have an option to cross to the peak of the Blackcombe mountain via a single span cable car. The distance across the span is over 3 Km! and the drops are staggering. A must do trip if you have the head for heights.

On the way down Chris spotted a black bear just below us (with some hikers a bit too close for comfort taking photographs). He was delighted because he has been looking out for one since arriving in Canada.

We have been really impressed with Whistler village, think it has been improved for the 2010 winter Olympics because everything is spotlessly clean, tidy and beautifully presented.

Overall a great day.

Off to Cache Creek tomorrow will update when next get a connection.

Road to Whistler

Bit disappointed today with the very famous Sea to Sky highway. It was raining on and off so maybe it would look better on a sunny day as everything looked a bit grey. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and sunnier.

Did like what we saw of Whistler, had a late walk into town after arriving at our site. This camp site is much better than yesterdays, more spacious and generally a more pleasant feel to it.

Free Wi Fi at the pitch (so we can add to the blog today).and a Liquor store in town (so wine with dinner tonight.)

We plan to spend the day in Whistler tomorrow.

The Start of our RV Adventure

An early breakfast in the hotel (Well early for us at 8.15). Then check out and go to get the RV.
Picked up this 30ft monster and then off to our 1st park just on the outskirts of Vancouver. Only got lost once but arrived safe and sound. On arrival, expecting a pull through site, we were told that all the sites on this park are reverse in! Fun over after reversing onto our site then pull it off again to go shopping.
Haven’t done much or many miles today but very tired (Probably due to our nervous journey)

Off to Whistler (Site of 2010 winter Olympic ski events) tomorrow for 2 nights. The journey is out of town so marks the start of our proper RVing.

Last Day in Vancouver

Another beautiful day (our last full day) in Vancouver.

Took the Big Bus to Robson street, the main shopping area. From there we walked down to English bay, on the edge of Stanley park and along the the sea wall of False Creek until we were opposite our hotel on the other side of the water.
Then took an Aquabus back to Granville Island with another visit to the bustling food market. The whole area was buzzing with music and people enjoying the sunshine. Overall a very feel good atmosphere.

We have walked miles over the last couple of days enjoying the sunshine and would love to visit the Granville Island area and Vancouver city again.

Picking up the Motorhome tomorrow for the main part of our holiday.

Not sure when or where we will have an internet connection as we visit different camp sites but will update when possible.
